60 Second MBA: Business Presentations… Rather Drop Dead Than Speak?

January 10, 2011 by Donald McMichael

Most people would rather dye than speak. If this is you then these tips from Rob Buccino, President of NeoCortex, via the Whos’ Got Your Back blog will do you right.
  1. Move from fear of to fear for. Change from someone who fears criticism to someone that helps audiences go beyond their fears.
  2. Instead of using manipulation show cooperation. Get rid of your desire to have the audience see things your way and start cooperating. Embrace audience engagement and work with them to advance their interest.
  3. Don’t give a presentation, have a conversation. We are all more comfortable having a conversation because of its nature give and take nature. An additional bonus is that it allows you to tap real time feedback to hone in on their interests, needs, and concerns.
  4. Don’t make it about you, it is about them. See all the above.
