Pop Quiz: Do you know these 47 business development acronyms?

Remember when you sat in that meeting to discuss the latest product launch and you heard a twenty something roll through a virtual alphabet soup of social media acronyms, only five of which you knew.

Right then and there you made a commitment to yourself; “Never again, this is to important.”

Well now that we’ve all got our social media abbreviations down cold… um, well at least the most relevant ones. You need to step up again.

This time to cut through the same type of business development and finance mumbo jumbo. Afterall, not knowing what something means is not only quite annoying, but also directly impacts your ability to make the right decision for you and your business.

I’m here to help. The purpose of the list below is to make sure that you never get caught short again. It’s a quick reference guide to the most commonly used business development and finance acronyms.

  1. ARPU – average revenue per user
  2. ASP – average selling price
  3. BMG – business model generation
  4. BMI – business model innovation
  5. CAGR – compounded annual growth rate
  6. CAPEX – capital expenditure
  7. CAPM – capital asset pricing model
  8. CFC – consumption of fixed capital
  9. CFS – consolidated financial statement
  10. COGS – cost of goods sold
  11. C&F – cost with freight
  12. EAR – effective annual rate
  13. EBIT – earning before interest and taxes
  14. EBITDA – earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization
  15. EDI – electronic data exchange
  16. EFT – electronic funds transfer
  17. EPS – earnings per share
  18. EXP – export
  19. FASB – financial accounting standards board
  20. FOB – freight on board
  21. FRA – forward rate agreement – agreement to borrow or lend at a specified future date at an interest rate that is fixed today
  22. FIFO – first in – first out inventory recording
  23. FX – foreign exchange
  24. GAAP – generally accepted accounting principals
  25. GP – gross profit
  26. GL – general ledger
  27. GSV – gross sales value
  28. ICB – industry classification benchmark
  29. IR – interest rate
  30. KPI – key performance indicator
  31. LOC – letter of credit
  32. LIFO – last in, first out inventory recording
  33. MOQ – minimum order quantity
  34. MVP – minimum viable product
  35. NAV – net asset value
  36. NPV – net present value
  37. OC – opportunity cost
  38. P&L – profit and loss statement
  39. PBT – profit before taxes
  40. PAT – profit after taxes
  41. RE – retained earnings
  42. RFQ – request for quote
  43. SG&A – sale, general, and administrative expenses
  44. SOX – sarbanes and oxley
  45. TCO – total cost of ownership
  46. WACC – weighted average cost of capital
  47. WC – working capital
